I took my girls to see this train when it came through town today. I thought it would be sorta cool. It was actually kind of awesome. Who woulda thought?
It was actually really cool to see it up close, and see all the systems working together, and see how much work went into maintaining it and keeping it running. You could see the flames through an opening on the side, and it produced huge amounts of steam and was incredibly loud... It made me go into this long thought process about what it was like to take the train, and be around trains, in "the old days." I'm guessing I might react that way to any vintage mechanical system still operating today.
Next thing we know, you're going to become some kind of rabid train enthusiast.
ReplyDeleteNo, just the old steam engines. =)

I've seen that train, and it is sweet. You don't have to be a geek for vintage mechanics to fall under its spell. But it doesn't hurt if you are.
