Video of the Day

Christine O'Donnell, now the official Republican candidate in the Delaware race. It's delicious, y'all.

That's hilarious! I'm thinking it's a good thing that the Repubs are being pushed so far to the extreme by Tea Partiers. My hope is it will lose them any independent and moderate voters they would have gotten otherwise.

  3. Masturbation is selfish, using campaign money to pay your rent isn't! This video is so great.

Wow. Does she still espouse this position or is she distancing herself from it?

  5. This video is priceless.

@woozer: The contradictions are endless, aren't they?

@ chaela: Most of the tea party candidates who have come out of nowhere have stuff like this in their past, and generally they're just remaining silent about it. It's their way to distance themselves from the position without outright rejecting it, since a lot of their supporters probably agree with it.

  7. This isn't funny. It is pretty basic Christian morality.

It is also what is taught by Sexaholics Anonymous who try to help people whose lives are dominated by sexual desires of sorts they don't want to act upon. They teach that people have to avoid even fantasy about such acts.

There are people in the world who think differently than you do, who have a different world view and value system. Do you think it is really liberal minded to laugh at them rather than just acknowledging that they exist and you disagree with them,
and perhaps saying why you do?

  8. I'm not sure I get your comment, Susan. I grew up in a very conservative Christian environment, so I'm pretty sure I get the worldview you're referring to. The thing is, I know the Bible through and through, and there actually is no scriptural basis for the claim that masturbation is as bad as or worse than adultery. I'd be glad to be proven wrong about this. Whatm exactly is the scriptural basis in your view?

You can quote the story about Onan, and as far as I know that's the most commonly used scriptural reference for the prohibition of masturbation. But of course Onan was condemned not for jacking off but for refusing to produce heirs for his dead brother. Rather different, no?

And I get that there are people who have sexual addictions. Shall we all remain celibate for the rest of our lives for their sake? Really?
